What is a roadworthy inspection?
A roadworthy inspection is a thorough examination of a vehicle to ensure it meets safety and legal standards for operation on the road. It is essential for obtaining a roadworthy certificate, which confirms that the vehicle is safe to drive. This inspection is often required when transferring ownership or registering a vehicle.
How can I get a roadworthy certificate?
To get a roadworthy certificate, you need to take your vehicle to an authorised inspection station where a licensed vehicle tester will perform the necessary inspections. If your vehicle passes the inspection, you will be issued a roadworthy certificate, which is valid for 60 days or 2000km.
What happens if my vehicle fails the first roadworthy inspection?
If your vehicle fails the first roadworthy inspection, you will be provided with a report detailing the issues that need to be rectified. You typically have 14 days to fix the roadworthy issue and return for a second inspection. If the issues are resolved, you can obtain a roadworthy certificate upon passing the subsequent inspection.
Where can I book a roadworthy inspection?
You can book a roadworthy inspection at a licensed vehicle inspection facility or an authorised inspection station. Many facilities offer online booking options, allowing you to schedule your inspection at your convenience.
What is the difference between a pink slip and a roadworthy certificate?
A pink slip, also known as an eSafety check in NSW, is a specific type of roadworthy inspection required for vehicles that are over a certain age before they can be registered or re-registered. While both confirm the roadworthiness of a vehicle, the pink slip is typically used in specific circumstances dictated by local regulations.
How long is a roadworthy certificate valid?
A roadworthy certificate is generally valid for 60 days from the date of issue or 2000km. If you do not complete the registration or transfer process within this timeframe or exceed the kilometres, you will need to obtain another inspection to receive a valid certificate.
What types of vehicles require an annual inspection?
Inspections are required when vehicles are registered for the first time, when ownership is transferred, or when a vehicle has been unregistered for an extended period. Additionally, certain vehicles may require an annual Certificate of Inspection (COI) to remain compliant with safety regulations i.e. Taxis, Uber etc.
Can I obtain inspection certificates via email?
Yes, we can email inspection certificates. After we complete the inspection, and the vehicle passes, we can issue you an electronic certificate, which can be used for registration purposes.
What should I expect during a roadworthy inspection?
During a roadworthy inspection, a licensed vehicle tester will evaluate various aspects of your vehicle, including brakes, tyres, lights, and structural integrity. The goal is to ensure that the vehicle is safe to operate and meets all legal requirements. Any defects will be noted, and you will receive guidance on what needs to be fixed if your vehicle does not pass.
